FIFA 2005

Gameplay
Gameplay is fun. It's essentially very basic and those who want to get deep into the managment and strategy of soccer might want something more, but the crucial thing is it really is fun and that's how gameplay should be judged (especially when you consider how polished the gameplay is). Online is also fun and after 40+ games online to have had nobody quit on me is a refreshing experience. |

Graphics
The stadiums are very nicely done. The 'star' players are also easily identifiable from their faces. Not all the players on every team, especially those less popular teams, have been recreated and it's in that area where FIFA falls short. Generic players are a little similar to each other in appearance. However if you like your sports games to have plenty of gloss, shine and official shirt licenses then you will love FIFA 2005. |

Longevity
FIFA 2005 has its deepest franchise mode yet and with the variety of national leagues available it's impressive. The depth within the franchise could be a little more but there's enough here to keep you going for a while. |

Presentation
With all the leagues, uniforms and sponsors on show here this game is sick with presentation. Throw in the many stadiums from around the world to pick from and there is plenty of eye candy. The tv style presentation does become a little repetitive and if there was a complaint to be made it is in terms of the amount of repetition particularly on the commentary side of things. |

Sound
This is where FIFA 2005 is a let down. Sound is too vague because in terms of crowd noise and overall atmosphere it actually does okay. Crowds will often call out players names or sing songs characteristic to the particular team. However the commentary is full of repetition and actually gets boring quite quickly. In fact at one stage I was tempted to try the Spanish commentary for a bit of variety (and I don't know a word of Spanish). The next iteration of FIFA needs an upgrade on the commentary for sure. |

Overall
FIFA 2005 is exceptionally polished, as are most EA titles. There are no glaring bugs, no major issues. That isn't to say that the game is perfect, for there are many areas where it could be improved. By improvements it really is just a question of making the game deeper and more difficult with more strategy involved, both off the field as well as on it. But it's the best FIFA yet and it will give you a solid and fun game of soccer. |
