I-Form Normal HB-Counter Wk
The HB Counter Wk is a great play to keep the defense honest. We have noticed that a lot
of players on defense tend to overshift the defensive line and linebackers to the strong
side to defend the HB Sweep or Toss play. The HB Counter is the perfect play to make
them respect runs to both sides.

The key block for the HB Counter Wk is the pulling RG and the FB. Both of their blocks will
spring the HB to the outside for a big run.

We ran the I-Form HB Counter Wk against the 4-3 Thunder defense several times in the
lab and experienced a great deal of success. The 4-3 Thunder is one of the better
defenses in Madden 2003 to shut down the I-Form HB Toss. Most players will shift the
defensive linemen and linebackers to the strong side to stop the HB Toss. By running the
I-Form HB Wk Counter it will make them think twice.

In the table below we show the I-Form Normal HB Counter Wk blocking assignments. We
also demonstrate in our Flash diagram how effective the I-Form HB Counter Wk can be
against defenses that like to cheat against outside runs to the outside such as the 4-3
Thunder.
