2002 Team Outlook
San Francisco has rebuilt its team over the last few years. Hit by the salary cap in the mid 90's San Francisco fell from one of the elite teams in the league. This year many experts believe they have a chance to win it all. They have one of best offenses in the game and their defense is up and coming with good young players. Look for San Francisco to finish second in the NFC West and make the playoffs as a wild card team.
The offense has all kinds of talent. The starting quarterback in one of the most accurate passers in the game. He has decent speed, so don't be afraid to take off and run with him. The starting running back is a workhorse. He does not have a lot of speed, but can break tackles and move the chains. San Francisco boasts one of the top receivers in Madden 2003. Look to pass to him often. The offensive line is one best in the game. They should open plenty of running lanes for you to run through.
The defense is young, but has two veterans at defensive tackle who can plug up the inside running game and generate a good pass rush. Both defensive ends are young and have good speed to put pressure on the quarterback. The linebackers have good speed, but are the weak link of the San Francisco defense. However, they are young and will develop over time. The top cornerback is becoming one of the top cover corners in the game, look for him to give you a few interceptions each season. Both safeties have good speed and can help cover the deep pass.
Both kicker and punter positions will need to be upgraded. Both the punt and kick return game is in solid hands.
