2002 Team Outlook
New York (AFC) has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball despite losing key players on both offense and defense. New York likes to play Cover 2 defense and they have enough talent on defense to run it successfully. Look for New York to finish third in the AFC East and possibly make the playoffs as a wild card team.
The offense is lead by their perennial all pro running back who consistently gets 1000 yards a season. Look to run him on the right side of the line where both the right guard and center are good run blockers. The ageing quarterback has a strong arm, but is on the down side of his career. Consider bringing in the younger back up quarterback to see what he can do. The top receivers are talented and should allow you to move the ball through the air consistently. The teams top receiver has a lot of speed, look to throw deep with him. The teams starting tight end is a good pass catcher and should be used in the red zone.
The defensive ends are both good pass rushers and should be able to get a pass rush on the quarterback. The defensive tackles are not really good and need to be upgraded to stop the inside run game. The starting linebackers are all talented and form one best linebacking units in the game. All three have good speed and should be able to contain both the run and pass. New York plays a Cover 2 and the secondary fits the scheme perfectly. Both cornerbacks are solid and the safeties are not very talented, but the Cover 2 scheme covers their weaknesses.
The special teams are consistent in all areas. Both the kicker and punter are average at their position. The return game has a lot of speed and should provide you with good field position.
