One of the biggest areas of presentation that needs work in the Madden Franchise is the crowd/announcing during exciting plays. There is a huge difference between real life crowds/announcing and that of Maddens. In Madden, things like Punt return touchdowns don’t come very often. When they do happen, they aren’t very exciting. During a punt return for a Touchdown, the crowd gets a little louder and so does the announcer, but it doesn’t even touch the chills that go down your back in real life.
Now put down the controller and lets go to Chicago, were Devin Hester is about to return a punt. Before he returns the ball, he gets the crowd energized by jumping up and down. Nothing has even happened, yet Soldier Field is going crazy. As he catches the ball mostly everyone is screaming “Go!” at the top of their lungs. Than when Hester breaks out into the open, Soldier Field erupts as they know what’s going to happen. Along with the crowd, the announcer’s volume starts to pump up and you can always here; “The 20, the 15, the 10, the 5, Hester does it again!”
It is definitely an amazing moment when both the crowd and announcers work together to perform a perfect moment. What would sports be if there wasn’t a crowd or announcer going crazy when they see a spectacular play? As of right now, that’s how the Madden franchise feels like to me. Like a place where 22 people are playing and no one even cares if something exciting happens. An important thing to get down is atmosphere, if they get this down it will add a huge element to the game. Then of course if the atmosphere is done right in regular games, EA sports needs to multiply the intensity of regular games by ten to get the payoff games down pat. If I had the same feeling I do at Soldier Field when Hester returns a punt for a touchdown in Madden, the experience would definitely send chills down my back.
